During the 4-week Energy Challenge students, teachers and staff discover they have the power to save energy in their schools, and that their actions can translate into financial savings for their school, and positive change for the world.
The Green Cup Energy Challenge has to date resulted in over 120 million kWh in savings nationwide, eliminating up to 180 million lbs of CO2 from entering the atmosphere!
On average, participating schools have seen a 5-10% reduction in electricity use, and approximately 60% persistence in energy savings from year to year, with a lifetime cumulative reduction of >40,000 kWh/each school.
Take the Challenge!
Note: Green Schools Alliance is taking a short break from administering the Green Cup Challenge to focus efforts on START: Sustainability Tracking and Roadmap Tool.
In the meantime, we encourage GSA members to use the instructions and worksheet template in the GSA Community to run the competition internally or with neighboring schools!
